Oakay Strike & Ban System

Introduction

These posts outlines the strike system for the Oakay server. This system is designed to maintain a fair and enjoyable gameplay environment for all players by addressing rule violations in a consistent and transparent manner. Players begin with 0 strikes. Accumulating a certain number of strikes will result in temporary or permanent bans.

Offense Categories

Major offenses are severe violations that significantly harm the server environment or community. These strikes never expire.

Strike System and Punishments

Strike Accumulation

  • Major Offenses: Two (2) major offenses result in a permanent ban.

  • Minor Offenses: Three (4) consecutive minor offenses within a 30-day period result in a permanent ban.

Punishments

  • Major Offenses:

    • First Offense: 1-month temporary ban.

    • Second Offense: Permanent ban.

  • Minor Offenses:

    • First Offense: Warning.

    • Second Offense: 1-2 week timeout for voice and text chat (if the offense is verbal) / 1-2 week temporary ban.

    • Third Offense: 1-month temporary ban.

    • Fourth Offense: Permanent ban.

Conversion Rule

If a player accumulates one (1) major offense and three (3) minor offenses within a 30-day period (the expiry window for minor strikes), it will be treated as two (2) major offenses, resulting in a permanent ban.

Strike Expiry

  • Major Strikes: Never expire.

  • Minor Strikes: Expire 30 days after they are issued, provided the player does not receive any further strikes (major or minor) during that 30-day period. If a player receives another minor offense before the 30-day expiry of a previous minor strike, the expiry timer for the older minor strike resets and begins again from the date of the new offense.

Appeal Process

Players have one (1) opportunity to appeal a temporary or permanent ban. The appeal process is as follows:

  • Method of Appeal: Players must submit their ban appeal through a designated Google Form. The link to this form will be clearly provided in the ban message and/or on the server's Discord.

  • Who Handles Appeals: The server's moderation team will be responsible for reviewing all ban appeals submitted through the Google Form. Decisions will be made collaboratively or by a designated lead moderator.

  • Criteria for Appeals: The moderation team will consider the following grounds for a successful appeal:

    • Mistaken Identity/Technical Error: The player believes they were banned in error.

    • New Evidence: The player has new information or evidence that was not available at the time of the ban.

    • Misunderstanding of Rules: The player genuinely misunderstood a rule, and demonstrates a clear understanding now, along with a credible commitment to following them in the future. This will only be considered if the rule in question was genuinely unclear or ambiguous, and the player's interpretation was reasonable. This criterion is not intended to excuse blatant or intentional rule-breaking.

    • Disproportionate Punishment: The player argues that the ban issued was significantly harsher than the offense warranted (though this will be evaluated against the established strike system).

  • Information Required: The Google Form will require players to provide the following information:

    • Their Discord username.

    • Their Minecraft username.

    • The reason for the ban (as they understand it).

    • Their detailed view on the situation that led to the ban.

  • Timeline for Response: Players can expect a response to their appeal within one (1) month of submitting the Google Form. The moderation team will endeavor to respond sooner, but this provides a realistic timeframe for thorough review.

  • Finality of Decision: There will be no exceptions to the one-time appeal. Once a decision has been made on an appeal, it is final.

  • Transparency: Players will receive a direct message from a moderator via Discord informing them of the outcome of their appeal (approved or denied) and the reasoning behind the decision.

Staff Authority

  • Players with less than 2 weeks of community membership: If a player commits a major offense (as defined in the rules, e.g., illegal cheating, severe discrimination and hate speech, etc.) or a minor offense (as defined in the rules, e.g., spam, excessive arguing or negativity, advertising, etc.), they can be instantly and permanently banned.

  • Players with 2 or more weeks of community membership: In situations that may warrant an instant permanent ban for major offenses (e.g., racism, mass griefing, hate speech), the player will be temporarily banned, and the final decision to issue a permanent ban rests with the server owner after a review of the situation and staff recommendation.

Conclusion

This strike system is designed to promote a positive and fair environment on the Oakay server. By clearly outlining the rules, offense categories, and consequences, we aim to ensure that all players are treated equitably and that the server remains a welcoming space for everyone.
